Zancudo Boat Tours

At Cabinas Los Cocos, we also own and run the two boats of Zancudo Boat Tours. We provide transportation to and from Golfito and Puerto Jimenez. We offer several boat tours in the area, and here are some of our more popular tours:

Rio Coto River Tour

A wide, tranquil river and comfortable cruise through rolling farmland, unchanged in 50 years. Up tidal estuaries of pure jungle with canopy overhead. Orchids, heliconias, and strange trees line the riverside. There is an abundance of birds, and often we see crocodiles and monkeys. We do this tour in a small motor boat, or it can be combined with kayaking on your own, in a quiet shady river estuary. Both options, kayak or power, you have a guide and learn about the history of our area.

Custom Gulf Tour, snorkeling, sightseeing, lunch.

Cruise the beautiful Golfo Dulce.  Often we see turtles, dolphins, and even a whale now and then.  It is a magnificent coastline, jungle coming down to meet glassy ocean.  There are several brain coral reefs to snorkel on.  You can bring a picnic lunch to have on a deserted beach, or go to a restaurant in Jimenez.  4 to 5 hours.

Wildlife Refuge

A boat ride across the gulf to a private reserve, along the way we show you the coast. At the Refuge, are 3 very tame monkeys that like to play, as well as sloths, macaws, parrots, and other animals. Some animals are permanent residents, and others are to be released. The owners will take you on a walk around, while explaining the fascinating lives of jungle inhabitants. This tour includes a stop for snorkeling – visibility permitting.

Osa Peninsula Hiking Tour

A boat ride to Puerto Jimenez, then a truck to the tip of the peninsula, and a hike that can be modified to whatever fitness level is needed. Interesting guides will educate you on the jungle plants and animals, as you walk thru one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica. You will usually see several groups of monkeys, scarlet macaws, sloths, and frogs. This tour can also be combined with a ZIP LINE.

Kayaking

We have 3 kayaks for rent, and the Zancudo Peninsula is backed by miles of tidal mangrove estuaries, safe quiet waters with lots of birds, or you can head out into the calm morning ocean. We also offer a trip with the kayaks, where we take you up in the power boat, to an gorgeous shaded canopied canal, and you kayak for 2 hours, and then we drive you home. This is an experience not to be forgotten.
